James 1:1-18.
Don’t be deceived!
Temptation always matters. Resist it.
Trials = outside us = from God -> maturing (v4)
Temptation = inside us = from us -> leads to death (v15)
There’s a difference between the two, but they’re closely related. The question is:When tempted, how will YOU respond?
Temptation comes from OUR desire. Don’t blame God, the devil or others. (v13-14)
Trials lead to either 1. evil desire -> sin -> death (v15) or 2. faith -> maturity -> crown of life.
Desire conceives, gives birth, grows up. Cut it off at the root! i.e. don’t put yourself in places of temptation, say NO! to it when it comes up. (v16-18)
Every good thing comes from God (v17) including trials (to help us mature). We need to remember what he’s like, and that he DOESN’T cause us to sin.
Best remedy? THANKFULNESS! Count your blessings. (v16-18)
Christians are the firstfruits (first sign) of new things to come. None of us are perfect, but Jesus IS. And we will be like him!
